INTRODUCTION TO HORMONE REPLACEMENT Numerous changes are associated with an age-related decline in the hormone testosterone. Some men may go through a rather sudden change in testosterone levels that might correlate with the hormonal changes that women experience at menopause. However, most men have a slower and more subtle hormonal decline experiencing symptoms over a period of time. Symptoms of testosterone
deficiency are often attributed to other problems, denied by the patient,
and unrecognized by the physician. Andropause - the male menopausal
- may consist of a variety of signs and symptoms. Andropause Andropause When hormones are replaced or restored back to physiologic
levels considered normal for younger males, men may experience a dramatic
reversal of many of these changes. For optimal results, it is vital that
hormone replacement therapy be combined with adequate exercise, proper
nutrition, and appropriate use of natural supplements. Erectile Dysfunction It is estimated that Erectile Dysfunction (ED) affects more than half of all men over 40 years of age, or 140 million men worldwide. However, only one in 20 receives medical treatment, demonstrating the clear need for additional therapies in this area. Sildenafil (Viagra) is one of seven oral medications that are currently commercially available to treat ED. They are not always successful and require approximately one hour to exert their effects. Additionally, sildenafil has been associated with a variety of side effects and drug interactions. Drug-related adverse effects, with headache in up to 23% of patients (placebo, 17%), indigestion in up to 11% (placebo, 7%), and back pain in up to 4.7% (placebo, 0%) were mostly mild to moderate. Also, color vision problems have been reported with sildenafil. Apomorphine is another medication that works on areas in the brain known to be involved in erectile function. More than 5,000 men with ED participated in clinical trials assessing the safety and efficacy of apomorphine, which is taken sublingually (under the tongue), dissolves rapidly, is effective in approximately 60% of patients, and results in an erection in about 20 minutes. However, in the U.S., its New Drug Application was withdrawn amid concerns of patients who had fainted after taking the medication, decreases in blood pressure when apomorphine was taken concurrently with nitrates, and potential interactions with alcohol. Nausea was reported in 16% of patients taking low doses (2 mg). Apomorphine is commercially available for the treatment of ED in Europe. FREE SALIVA HORMONE TEST KIT If you suffer from fatigue, low sex drive, hot flashes, foggy thinking, stress, mood swings, sleep disturbances, anxiety or depression, it could be your hormones. Saliva testing can help identify hormonal imbalance. It can also be used by your Doctor to help identify and restore hormonal imbalance. Saliva testing is the most reliable way to measure free, "bio available" hormone activity - hormones actually doing their job at the cell level. Most blood tests do not measure "bio available" hormone levels. Saliva hormones more accurately reflect tissue uptake and response of hormones delivered through the skin in creams, gels or patches. Blood and urine assays significantly underestimate hormones delivered topically, often resulting in overdosing. Saliva collection is painless - no needles. It negates the need for blood drawing, which often causes stress that can alter test results. Saliva test kits designed to measure hormone levels are available at
Ye Olde Pharmacy free of charge. Saliva collection
is easy and can be done any place at your convenience. Click for Frequently
